About Brooklyn Oenology

Brooklyn Oenology is a winery, headquartered on the edge of the Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods. Housed in a converted warehouse, BOE was founded in the spirit of Brooklyn’s artisanal resurgence.

Alie Shaper, winemaker and owner, is committed to producing wines that contribute to the fantastic spectrum of offerings in our fine borough. She believes in the good life for everyone, so she strives to bring you well-made wines for a price that won’t break the bank.

Alie also believes in producing locally; the wines are made from New York grapes, in fact! Winemaking is conducted at a host winery on the North Fork of Long Island, while sales and distribution operates in Brooklyn.

Our first vintage of wine is scheduled for release this summer; we will be offering a Long Island Chardonnay, and a Long Island Merlot. Look for our wines in retail shops and dining establishments around Brooklyn!

Oenology

What in heck is “oenology”?

Oenology is the art and science of winemaking. It combines a series of carefully chosen techniques with the unquantifiable touch of taste and aroma evaluation, guided by intuition. It is the choice of grapes, vineyard blocks, yeast for fermentation, balance of chemistry, timing of various mechanical practices, and barrel selection. All winemaking follows some common path, but every winemaker has her own special formula, directed by her sense of style and taste.
